Mike Ryan 2018 Hunter Cell Biology Meeting

Mike Ryan

Professor Mike Ryan is a lab head in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Biomedicine Discovery Institute, Monash University. After completing his PhD on molecular chaperones with Peter Hoj in 1997, Mike became a von Humboldt fellow in Klaus Pfanner’s lab (Freiburg, Germany). There he contributed to the understanding of protein import mechanisms in mitochondria. In 2000, Mike became a teaching-research academic at La Trobe University and was later head of the Department of Biochemistry (2010-2013). In 2014, Mike moved to Monash University where he continues to focus on mitochondrial biology. His research has contributed to the understanding of mitochondrial protein import mechanisms, the dynamics and control of mitochondrial morphology and the assembly of the mitochondrial respiratory chain and defects in disease.
